Message from the Safe and Healthy Homewood Coalition

The Strengthening Families Program is offered to Homewood families FREE of charge by IMPACT Counseling. It is a family skills training program designed to increase resilience and reduce risk factors for substance abuse, depression, violence and aggression, delinquency, and school failure.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are designed to recognize students in middle and high school who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. These prestigious awards are sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and are presented annually on the local, state, and national level. 

Applications are available online at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit. The deadline for students to complete applications online is November 3, 2015.

After School Tutoring Program

Starting tomorrow, Sept. 15th, HMS Peer Helpers will provide free after school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3p-3:30p in room 214 on the 7th grade hall. Any student, grade 6-8, is welcome to come regularly or drop by as needed. The only requirement is that students bring something to work on (homework, classwork, etc.). If you have any questions about this program, please contact Mrs. Baldwin (abaldwin@homewood.k12.al.us).

  •  Strategies of the marijuana and tobacco industries
  •  Difference between decriminalization and legalization/commercialization
  •  Impact of marijuana commercialization in Colorado and lessons learned
