Duke University Summer Programs

If you are a student currently in grades 6, 7, or 8, you have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy personal enrichment classes with academically-motivated students from around the world in Duke University’s Honors Institute for Middle School Students. This international and elite program challenges young students to explore advances in technology to design robots or advances in forensic science to solve crimes. Students can also learn the science behind making new medicines and new developments in genetics. Online registration begins on December 1, 2015.

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized and celebrated week where we can demonstrate our opposition to drugs. The Red Ribbon Campaign is a national campaign that supports the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s efforts to reduce the demand for drugs through prevention and education programs. Hopefully you have noticed the red ribbons throughout the city of Homewood showing the community’s support of this national campaign in addition to what we are doing in the schools.

The national Red Ribbon Week Celebration brings millions of people together to raise the awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. This campaign also supports and encourages prevention, early intervention, and treatment services. We hope everyone at HMS will be committed to a tobacco, alcohol, and other drug free lifestyle so we can all achieve our unique potential! 

Red Ribbon Week

Happy Red Ribbon Week! Homewood Middle School joins a number of other schools that will mark this week as Red Ribbon Week. This is a week that honors the memory of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, an undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement Officer who was killed in the line of duty in Mexico in 1985. Red Ribbon Week began the following year in his hometown in California, organized by family and friends who wore red ribbons in Kiki’s honor. In 1988, Congress proclaimed the last full week in October as National Red Ribbon Week. National observance of Red Ribbon Week has grown to more than 100,000 schools. This year's theme is “Respect Yourself ~ Be Drug Free.” In marking Red Ribbon Week, HMS is among thousands of schools pledging to be drug free in America!

Peer Helpers' After School Tutoring Program

There will be NO HMS Peer Helpers' After School Tutoring on Thursday, October 22nd, due to parent conferences. We will be available tomorrow and Wednesday.
